Supporting Animals in Grief
I was honored to have the opportunity to write a blog for Faunalytics and I’m happy to share it here today. In this article, you’ll learn:
- Understanding Animal Grief: The article discusses how animals experience grief.
- Providing Support: It offers strategies for supporting animals who are grieving, including creating a stable environment and providing extra attention and care.
- Research Insights: The piece highlights research findings on animal grief and emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing it in both companion and wild animals.
The inspiration for this article stems from the work of Jane Goodall… “There are numerous fields of study that I find fascinating within animal advocacy, and reading about animal spirituality in Through a Window by Jane Goodall, took me on a journey to better support animals…”

Gratitude for all beings
Perennials in the summer
Enjoy Colorado native and non-native plants for love, transformation, and comfort. Plants in bloom this time of year include echinacea, lavender, chamomile, rosemary, lemon balm, nettle, peppermint, spearmint, catnip, and more! To make a soothing herbal tea from flowers and herbs that can grow in Colorado, gather fresh or dried echinacea, lavender, chamomile, lemon balm, and peppermint.
Calming Blend: Combine chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm. This blend is perfect for unwinding after a long day, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.
How to make the tea: Begin by boiling water, then add a teaspoon of each herb to a teapot or infuser. Pour the boiling water over the herbs, allowing them to steep for 5-10 minutes. Strain the tea into a cup, sweeten with honey if desired, and enjoy. This blend combines the immune-boosting properties of echinacea, the calming effects of lavender and chamomile, the digestive benefits of lemon balm, and the refreshing taste of peppermint.

Emotional Support Group for Animal Activists and Caregivers
A space for individuals involved with animal advocacy and animal care giving to share and support each other with the emotional challenges that can come with animal rights activism. This is not group therapy but we hope to provide a space where all emotions and experiences can be held with compassion. It alleviates a sense of isolation, which, as activists and animal caregivers, we can often feel.
Join us on Google Meet (see link below) on Wednesday, July 17th at 6:00pm MST.

Animal Reiki Precept: “Be Compassionate toward yourself and others”
Meeka has inspired me time and time again to extend compassion to all beings. Her light and love continues to live on, and even after she passed away in January this year, I am reminded of her gifts everyday. Just looking at her gave me hope because I know whole-heartedly that she embodied compassion, empathy, and caring. As Meeka continued to age, and found past activities more challenging (such as going on longer walks), it didn’t mean that her love stopped on our shorter journeys.
I’ve been working on an painting project after attending Patricia Denys online Animal Loss Healing Workshop. Updates will be shown in an upcoming newsletter. To honor Meeka’s unwavering compassion, I will do my best to instill her light and love in a token of my appreciation that will extend to other beings through Animal Reiki practice.
